If you drive for work, whether that’s client visits, deliveries, or ride share shifts, you already know how easy it is to lose track of mileage and expenses until tax time rolls around (and the panic sets in). CarSavvy takes that headache off your plate.

This guide walks you through everything from setting up the app to exporting polished reports you can hand straight to your accountant or manager. Let’s get you set up.

Getting Started

  1. Download the CarSavvy app from the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Open the app and follow the sign-up prompts to create your account.

That’s it, you’re in. Now let’s set up trip tracking so CarSavvy can start doing the work for you.

Setting Up Automatic Trip Tracking

CarSavvy can automatically detect and log your drives, so you never have to remember to hit “start” before you pull out of the driveway.

  1. From the Home Screen, tap the four boxes icon in the top right corner.
  2. Select Trips.
  3. Under Trip Settings, turn on Drive Detection. This enables automatic trip tracking.
  4. Turn on Car Audio Detection and select your primary vehicle. This tells CarSavvy to detect trips taken specifically in that car.

Good to know: If you skip Car Audio Detection, that’s okay, you’ll just need to manually categorize each trip and assign it to the correct vehicle afterward.

Handy Features to Know About

  • Live Activities: See your real-time trip details right on your lock screen as you drive.
  • Start Trip Alert: Get a notification the moment Drive Detection starts tracking a new trip, so you always know it’s working.
  • Shift Option: Perfect if you do continuous, multi-stop driving, like ride share or delivery shifts, where one “trip” is really a string of stops.
  • Auto-Classification: Add your Work Schedule and Personal Schedule in Trip Settings, and CarSavvy will automatically sort your trips for you. Any trip taken during your Work Schedule hours is classified as business, and any trip during your Personal Schedule hours is classified as personal. Less manual sorting for you, and cleaner records at tax time.

How to Export Your Trip Reports

Need to send your mileage log to yourself, your accountant, or your manager? Here’s how:

  1. From the Home Screen, tap the image of your car.
  2. Select Trips.
  3. Tap Export in the top right corner.
  4. Choose the time period you’d like to report on.
  5. Email the report to yourself or your manager, done!

Tracking Expenses on the Go

Keeping receipts organised might be the most annoying part of owning a car. CarSavvy’s Quick Capture feature fixes that.

  1. Tap the plus (+) button at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Select Quick Capture.
  3. Snap a photo of any business-related document, a receipt, invoice, or bill.

Quick Capture doesn’t just save the photo, it reads the details and files them exactly where they belong in the app. That means you can see, at a glance, exactly how much your car is really costing you to run.

How to Export Your Expense Reports

Just like your trip reports, your expense reports are ready whenever you need them:

  1. From the Home Screen, tap the image of your car.
  2. Select Expenses.
  3. Tap Export in the top right corner.
  4. Choose the time period you’d like to report on.
  5. Email the report to yourself or your manager.

That’s It, You’re All Set
